In-Between – Mania – Major Depression
I have written some about In-between and Mania, this about major depression. I didn’t know the clinical terms and definition back in the day, I just knew that sometimes I was bouncing off the walls, the lamp shade wearing, life of the party. And, at other times I wanted to end the pain inside me. Now that I better understand bipolar and major depression, I know that I suffered from both of them from my early teens to now. I am in my 58.
When I was in my thirties I was so depressed at times, my psychiatrist wanted me to try vagus nerve stimulation. He suggested it would break the cycle. I don’t remember why I didn’t do it.
Anyway, I would lay on the couch for hours, half watching the TV. At other times I would go out riding my motorcycle by myself. I had no joy or happiness during these times. I was standing back watching myself exist.
The time between bouts of manic and major depression typically lasted for weeks, that said, with the right stimuli I could switch from one to other in a blink of an eye.
Here are some things that can help you through bouts of major depression:
Find a hobby, something that makes you happy. Hang around happy people.
Go out with your friends. Go out and get drunk. Smoke some dope. Get some blow for your nose Go fishing. Go out walking in the woods. Shoot some pictures and post them on Facebook.
- Stop all social media. You really don’t need it.
Go to church. Pray more.
- Have the elders of the church anoint you with oil and pray over you. This one is biblical.
This list is based solely on my experience.
