That Moment

That moment when it all comes together and you get to witness it. It is one of the most awesome feelings in the world.

I had one such moment while driving to work one morning. I was rounding a corner near Perch Lake when I saw the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen. If you have had the privilege to experience a one of these sunrises, you’ll understand what I’m about to say, they literally only last for minutes. That’s why they are treasured, and even romanticized.

I pulled off onto a gravel road that led to a dock where I knew, if I could setup quickly enough, I might possibly get some good shots. I always have my camera with me at the ready. When I got to the dock, I setup my tripod and camera and started shooting.

I clicked, changed settings, clicked some more, changed settings, and clicked some more; until the sunrise was completely above the trees and mist. I had no idea what I had captured until later that afternoon when I arrived home from work.

The first thing I did was load the pictures into Adobe Lightroom to see if I captured anything worth saving. I was blown away when I saw the images. This is one of them. This photo has been featured on the front page of Flickr and the Broken Light Collective website.

I took over my father’s blog September of 2017 after losing his battle with mental illness. This blog was originally to share my journey through grieving, finding peace, and trusting God in the process...and in many ways is exactly that. This has evolved into life as a family of 4 with 2 dogs, living in the Midwest. I will cover everything from fashion to our family routines. Join us on this crazy adventure!

  1. Thank you and welcome to my blog. It was extremely difficult but I learned so much. You are welcome anytime. Will be reading more of yours as well. God Bless, SR

  2. This is beautiful. It seems as if you have a wonderful gift for photography. I would truly enjoy seeing some more of your pictures. I am quite the nature lover. I live in the country in the great state of Texas, (that is until it gets hot!) 🙂 My husband and I have six dogs, a pasture with beautiful trees, and a huge pecan tree in the yard. Nothing inspires me or gives me more peace then nature. Again, a picture well worth taking. Thanks for sharing. A blog you may enjoy is I love his pictures. God Bless, SR
